GLOBEC Metadata Inventory

NASA's Global Change Master Directory (GCMD) is a comprehensive directory of descriptions of data sets of relevance to global change research. The GCMD database includes descriptions of earth science data covering climate indicators, agriculture, atmosphere, biosphere, hydrosphere cryosphere, oceans, geology, geography, paleoclimate and human dimensions of global change. The user may search the GCMD database and the resulting metadata records provide information on the nature of the data (e.g. parameters measured, geographic location, time range) and where the data are stored.

The funding for the GCMD is long term, therefore storing metadata here is a secure way of preserving a record of the results and achievements of the GLOBEC programme. This form an integral part of GLOBEC's integration and synthesis efforts and will continue into the future even when GLOBEC is completed.

To distinguish GLOBEC collected data, GLOBEC has its own portal into the GCMD. The portal can be searched in several ways, from a simple free text search to a detailed keyword, spatial or temporal search.

Please check that the results from your project are listed and up to date in the GLOBEC metadata portal. Individual scientists can add their own entries to the portal (see instructions link below) or send your metadata to the IPO (daas@pml.ac.uk) for inclusion in the inventory.
